What is Steel Open Blind Rivet?

A steel open blind rivet, also known as a steel pop rivet, is a type of fastener used to join materials together. It is commonly used when access to the backside of the joint is limited or impossible. The term "blind" refers to the fact that the rivet can be installed from one side of the workpiece, without requiring access to the opposite side.
The steel open blind rivet consists of two main parts: the rivet body and the mandrel. The rivet body is a hollow cylindrical tube with a flange at one end and a formed head at the other end. The mandrel is a thin rod that passes through the center of the rivet body. The mandrel has a protruding head on one end and a grip on the other end.
To install a steel open blind rivet, a rivet gun or a similar tool is used. The rivet gun pulls on the mandrel, which causes the protruding head to deform and expand the rivet body. As the rivet body expands, it creates a bulge on the blind side of the joint, creating a secure connection.
Once the rivet is installed and the mandrel is fully pulled, it breaks off at a predetermined point, leaving the formed head of the rivet in place. The broken mandrel remnants typically fall freely within the hollow cavity of the rivet body, hence the term "open blind" rivet.
