  • A: You must match the drill point number (usually #1 through #5) to the thickness of the steel you are drilling. A #2 point can drill through two layers of sheet metal, but a #5 point is needed for thick structural steel. Never exceed the screw's maximum drilling capacity.
  • Q: Can self-drilling screws be used in wood?
  • A: They can, but it is not ideal. A dedicated wood screw is far better because its coarser thread pitch provides superior holding power in wood grain. SDS threads are designed for the finer threads needed for metal.
